Dead Wish by Lawrence Block (Summary Version)
A man (fake Edward Wright), appearing as in the middle of
thirties, tall within a long narrow face and thick black eyebrows, attempted to
jump off the bridge, as a cop saw. He
introduced his name as Edward Wright and had a talk with a cop, telling that
his lover died, and she was all he had. Cop wrote report: Edward Wright - Big
eyebrows, wife dead, thought about jumping.
The man went to meet Psychiatrist, and told that he no
longer worth living, and almost killed himself the night before met.
A man with thick eyebrows then went to meet a doctor to ask
for stomach pumped. He told that he had taken a twenty-sleeping pill 20 minutes
ago. After that the doctor pumped his stomach and made report on his case.
After that, the man went to gun store and buy a gun with
boxes of bullet. Shopkeeper opened a book to get signed on by showing the man's
identity. The man indicated himself as Mr. Wright with driving's license.
At 9 o'clock that night, a real Edward Wright's doorbell was
rung, and a tall man with thick black eyebrows was there after Edward opened
the door. He was pointed a gun on the stomach by a visiting man.
The man was Mark. He stated to Edward Wright that Edward
killed Edward's wife and made it look like an accidence. Then, Mark forced
Edward to sit down at a desk and persuaded him to write a note with signature.
At last, he directly told the REAL Edward that he had imitated him several
times for unintentionally committing suicide and made his dead as a complete
commitment.
